Making an Impact: Lucid’s Focus on DEI and Building Community

We’ve all been faced with some important truths this year. As we all learn to adapt to “a new normal” in nearly every facet of life, businesses and organizations are also doing the same. At Lucid, we’ve channeled this time of reflection into a greater focus on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) as well as ramping up our involvement in our local and global communities. 

Many companies are addressing the powerful social movements happening all over the world, and Lucid is no different. We believe that everyone deserves to have both visibility and voice in a safe space that celebrates their background, individuality, and personal experiences. 

In June we made a commitment to ourselves as a company, our employees and our communities to do better. 

Since then, we have worked hard to invest in:

  • Community Building
  • Employee Learning and Training
  • Philanthropic efforts and Donations
  • Company Hiring Practices
  • Employee Resources and internal Engagement Opportunities
  • Communications Both Internally and Externally

The Importance of a Strong Community

In a time when we may all be feeling a bit more isolated and less connected to our peers, a strong community is invaluable. We’ve found that there are many ways to have an impact on our communities, even from a distance. 

Lucid is proud to invest in our community, ranging from virtual internships and coaching experiences to philanthropic donations and virtual event sponsorships. Our employees have volunteered time to speak with local youth, provided coaching for college students and feedback on virtual internship programs. We also recognize the opportunity awarded to us from our own business model, which is why Lucid is currently building out a way to utilize our research platform to support equity- and inclusion-focused research, free of charge. 

Led by the Office of the CEO, next month a group of New Orleans-based employees will spend their annual service day away from their desks working with Rebuilding Together New Orleans to complete home repairs for low-income homeowners in the community. Lucid has also earmarked funds to support the efforts of our various global community partners – extending our support for the organizations that positively impact our communities.

While we recognize that these initiatives are great investments in our communities, we also care deeply about the causes that are important to our employees. This is the primary reason for the launch of Lucid’s new employee donation platform. For this year and each year going forward, Lucid will set aside funds to match the donations of our global employees and amplify the causes that matter most to them.

What DEI Means to Lucid

Additionally, our goal is for every employee at our organization to be both seen and heard –  and we want our employees to reflect the diverse pool of global talent in our industry. As our efforts continue to evolve (and improve), we also wanted to highlight the important work that is already being done within our organization.

Lucid is proud to support our many Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). These employee-led affinity groups bring together Lucid Employees from across the globe and empower employees to create space for discussion, activism and community – both inside and outside of the company.

Ranging from recurring meetings for our Working Parents, discussions on building Black wealth and prison reentry via Lucid’s Black Professionals Network to the annual fundraising and volunteer work of our LGBTQ+ ERG. These are only some of the awesome accomplishments that we continue to see and Lucid remains dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment for each individual employee. 

We also realize this must extend to our hiring practices, which is why we have been continuing to make improvements in this arena. Along with new recruiting partnerships and hiring practices, employees involved in hiring will be going through training dedicated to inclusive interviewing. These tools, resources and training will allow us to be thoughtful, intentional and inclusive in building our global workforce. (If this resonates with you, check out our open job postings!)

It’s All about People

Why are these efforts so important to us? Because at the end of the day, everything we do is about people – those who make our organization so wonderful, those who make our local communities so unique, and the people who make our global community thrive.  

While we are proud of the steps that both Lucid and our incredible employees have taken to date, we understand that it doesn’t stop here and that the fight for equality and inclusion in all walks of life is ongoing one. We continue to welcome any and all to join us in this discussion and this journey as Lucid works towards a more equitable future.
